This sort of thing just doesn't happen here.

Guys, there was a TORNADO warning for my area. WTF? My mom and I were sitting in the family room and there was all this thunder, like right over our house, it was pretty freaky. It sounded like we were under attack. Then there was all this hail, and then the news cut in with a tornado warning! Crazy! People are reporting funnel clouds. Nothing, you know, huge. But anything here is pretty big.

My littlest sister is probably freaking out right now. My mom promised her we'd never have to worry about tornadoes here.

I seriously barely pay attention to tornado anymore. Then again, I do live in Illinois.

Also, if you don't know much about tornados...was it actually a tornado warning? That's pretty crazy. Tornado watches are much more common, since they just mean conditions are right for a tornado to maybe show up. A warning means they've actually seen a funnel cloud...

I love storms. :)

Yeah, as I was writing the entry I was like, "dude, your friends in Illinois are going to think you're a dork. They do this all the time."

Well, the news said it was a tornado warning. But who knows if they actually know what they were talking about.

I checked on weather underground after I posted that. Apparently one touched down! So it probably was a warning.

Not everyone in Illinois is as "meh" about it as me. I know plenty of people who freak out at storms, but people like me and my dad go outside, stand on the stoop, and look at them instead. ^_^

Crazy. Oregon/Washington gets wind storms once or twice a year, but we don't usually get tornadoes.

We had hurricane speed winds down here last weekend in certain areas.

Heh. I used to do that until I was in one. They are really cool unless they come too close. I'm still pretty nonchalant about major thunderstorms, though. Check back after I get hit by lightning. *g*

Welcome to my life in Chicago - every afternoon from 3pm to 5pm.... May through Sept.

Heh. I thought about you when I was watching the news.

Yikes, stay safe!

We had a tornado here earlier in the week, and it was unusual because it's January, but still, it's Tornado Alley. We pretty much expect them anytime. We grew up doing tornado drills in school. That's what makes me worry about areas that aren't tornado prone, do people know what to do, or even know the difference between a Watch and a Warning?

Luckily, no one has been reported injured yet. There's a lot of damage though.

We never did tornado drills. I remember learning what you should do in case of one, but we never had drills on it. We're more worried about earthquakes here.

What does one even do in a tornado? Go to the basement or stand against a wall away from a window?? I have no clue.

[identity profile] bubbles83.livejournal.com 2008-01-11 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you're supposed to go to your basement. Or if you don't have a basement, you should go to your bottom floor and go in a closet or the bathroom.

I think. It's something like that, anyway.
