Date: 2007-02-18 10:39 pm (UTC)Okay, music I am down with:
1) The Wallflowers. You know, the "One Headlight" band? Led by Bob Dylan's son? "Red Letter Days" is my go-to John Sheppard album. Particularly This Song (http://download.yousendit.com/87BA0E35123842B6). (For sampling purposes, of cours. You don't want to buy music you don't like.)
2) Regina Spektor. I hated "On the Radio" when I first heard it, but it's grown on me and I loved "Fidelity" and most of her other songs straight off.
3) Sarah Harmer. She's a Canadian singer/songwriter who is kind of a cross between Sarah McLaughlin and Sheryl Crow. "You Were Here" (as an album) speaks to me most of all of them.
4) Alexa Ray Joel. Billy Joel's daughter has a sampler album out and it's only available on iTunes and at Target. It's only $5 at Target and $6 on iTunes (6 songs.) She sounds a little like a cross between her father and Regina Spektor (because of the piano.)
5) The "Cars" soundtrack if you like rock with a little country. Yes, the Pixar movie. I have unholy love for it. It's also the only one of the things on this list I don't have
Also, I have fits of occasionally needing everything, or specific somethings, from U2, Barenaked Ladies, DMB, or the Piano Man himself.

Date: 2007-02-19 07:52 am (UTC)Thanks for the recs. I haven't listened to The Wallflowers in forever. I'll give that song a try. And I love Sarah Harmer. I'll have to see what's there that I don't have.

Date: 2007-02-19 05:19 pm (UTC)OMG, someone else loves Sarah Harmer! I only know of her because
Also, if the Wallflowers thing doesn't download or something, erm...let me know, I'll try again. I threw it up in another post because I was all, Hey, 99 extra downloads, that's plenty, and then it occurred to me that there may be more people than that on my flist. Not that they all want it, but it was meant for you so I wanted to make sure you got it. :P
I was thinking in terms of albums and not individual songs, but if you think you'd want to go that way, I could probably pick out a few of my favorites.

I got the Wallflowers dl, thanks. :)
Albums are good. I can always go to amazon.com to see if they have previews if I want so hear a single song. But if you wanted to pick your favorites, I wouldn't complain.

Date: 2007-02-19 12:40 am (UTC)... Well, I live in a small town in Manitoba and I've never had Girl Scout cookies before lol.

Date: 2007-02-19 01:48 am (UTC)That's not fair. I mean, personally I don't think you're missing out on much, the plain ones are just that and while the thin mints are good you can get others in stores that are similiar.

Don't you hate it when someone asks you a simple question like, 'Name a song - any song.' And all you can think of is 'Uhm. Well. Erm. Farmer in the Dell?'
Manalive crawfishpie.

Date: 2007-02-19 07:26 pm (UTC)And if that doesn't destroy your opinion of my taste in cookies or otherwise, I'm always happy to proselytize on behalf of the man in my icon, Ruben Blades. When it comes to his albums, the indisputable must-have is Siembra, and deservedly so, but I'll add a couple of my personal favorites -- Agua de Luna and La Rosa de los Vientos.
But since this is iTunes and you can get individual songs, here are some highlights from those albums:
"Pedro Navaja" (if Siembra is the must-have album, this is the ultimate must-have track from it)
"Isabel" and "Claro Oscuro" (from Agua de Luna)
"La Rosa de los Vientos" and "Eres Mi Cancion" (from, of course, La Rosa de los Vientos)
