Apparently, my dad's boss is giving our family a trip to Mexico. In December we'll go down to Puerto Vallarta for five days. If my dad isn't making the whole thing up. Which, you know, is possible. My dad does stuff like that sometimes. It could be fun. It could also be an unmitigated disaster. You never can tell with my family.

I really want to go see PotC 3, but my mom is busy and we can't. I could go with my brother tonight (well, probably not since we don't have tickets yet), but I'd feel bad seeing it without her. We saw the first and second ones together, it's one of our things.

It wasn't as awesome as I'd hoped it would be, but I still enjoyed it. It didn't have anything to do with Martha, who was awesome, but... well I'm not really sure what it was. I like Joan, I liked the creepy scarecrows, I liked that psychic kid who is from Love Actually. I think it was the lack of the Doctor. I mean, obviously he was on it, but he wasn't him, and I enjoy Ten, so I wish I had gotten Ten. Instead, I got the dude that let's a little kid get beaten. Accurate for the time? Probably. But still.

I liked the shippy bits. The Doctor trusts Martha implicitly. He trusts her to know what to do, and to know when to open the watch. I mean hell, he trusts her with the watch. He said thank you to her and gave her that wonderful smile. Obviously, They Are In No Way Doing It.

I'm sure I'll enjoy it more upon rewatching it. Also, other people's squee usually makes me go, "Yeah, that was awesome." So maybe all is not lost yet. Tell me your favorite part so that I can test my theory and we can squee together. :)

Oh, I loved that smile. Just Guh. I melted on the spot and now the hubby is asking me what the heck got on the couch.

Martha protecting the Doctor and getting jealous was cool. As well as seeing the bits of the Doctor coming out. ("Where did you learn to draw?" "Gallifrey." "Is that an island" "I think so") And was I the only one that just about HAD A MOMENT when he kissed Joan? Good Lord, I would have killed to have that part. And noooo, there would have NOT have to have been multiple takes at all in that scene. ;)

Are you having trouble with MU? Because all that I download on it won't let my media player open it and it was fine last week. I've changed everything to .avi, but it still won't play. :( I had to use WinRar which I don't like to, because I want to burn the ep on a disk. Oh bother!

It was one of the best smiles on DW ever!

That kiss with Joan was fabulous. And I liked the bit with the cricket ball. I did enjoy it more when I watched it again. Not as much as I wanted to, but I think I had super high expectations for the episode and no matter what it would have failed.

I wasn't have trouble with MU, but I use their download manager, so maybe that's why.

Instead, I got the dude that let's a little kid get beaten.

See, that whole scene was painful for me. But painful in the "Damn, this is good conflict and drama" kind of way. I mean, not only does he let that guy beat up the poor little kid, but he's there teaching them how to fire machine guns. The Doctor's gonna be torn up when he's back to normal and he remembers that. "Don't let me hurt anyone." That was rule #1. But it's not like Martha could stop that. And that made me really sad. But, you know, in the "godilovethisshow" kind of way.

I think my favorite part was Martha bonding with the TARDIS, stroking it and walking around the console, remembering what happened when the Doctor changed. That was so so so intense and so well-acted. This whole episode was. I gotta tell you, I love Martha, but I don't think Freema's the most absolutely fantastic actress. She's good. She's not as good as Billie. She's still young and inexperienced. But hello, she's a million times better than any Star Trek actors, or even most of the cast of Heroes. So it's sci-fi, it's par for the course. But Freema was incredible in this episode.

Guh, I'm so stressed out. I can't believe I have to wait a whole week for the next part. I loved this episode!

I know I don't know you.

But I've got to say I don't know how you can say Freema's a million times better than any Star Trek actors. Unless, of course, you don't know much about it.

There are some damn fine actors in Star Trek. I love Martha and Freema, but Freema is inexperienced and somewhat sloppy. She's doing a fine job in spite of that, however.

But she isn't at the caliber, say, Patrick Stewart. ;)

I'm quite familiar with Star Trek. And while I'm prone to hyperbole, I do maintain that she's a better actress than most of the peripheral actors of any modern Star Trek. Deanna Troi? Wesley Crusher? Tasha Yar? Beverly Crusher? Geordi LaForge? Major Kira? Jadzia Dax, even (prophets forgive me). All of Enterprise?

My point is that in sci-fi, you learn to accept sub-par acting. And she's no Patrick Stewart. But she's never as bad as she could be. (Ali Larter, Milo Ventimiglia, I'm looking in your direction...)

I like Milo Ventimiglia.

But I probably just forgive him for the pretty.

I also happen to think that Terry Farrell did a great job. And not everyone's acting on Enterprise sucked! ;)

But TNG/VOY/DS9 had their fair share of good actors. Brilliant actors!

I don't think science fiction means sub-par acting any more than any other show, really.

I think the connection between sci-fi and acting quality is budget, honestly. More experienced actors cost more money. And most sci-fi shows, including old skool Who though I'm not sure about the budget of new Who, have low budgets.

There was good acting in DS9 - hello, Avery Brooks and Armin Shimmerman (love them!). And TNG had Riker and Picard, who, bless their hearts, had to work with some crap writing a lot of the time, but did their best.

So, yes, I'm prone to hyperbole. But Martha done good tonight. Really really good. Better than she has. So yay!

TNG also had Brent Spiner! And his three parter on Enterprise was fantastic. DS9 also had Rene Auberjonois. And several of the VOY actors were great, Kate Mulgrew in particular. I love my Star Trek actors. <3

Martha did do well. She's a brilliant Doctor companion, and I think part of Doctor Who's charm is it being a bit off. So the occasional shoddy acting isn't necessarily even bad.

If they give us some Doctor emo out of him letting that kid get beaten then it might be worth it. I don't necesarilly trust the writers to give us that, but maybe they will.

I loved Martha bonding with the TARDIS. It was like, she got it. What the TARDIS is about. Even when she was saying she felt silly talking to a machine, she got it. That it really isn't just a machine, it's something more. That was a really excellent scene.

I'm going to disagree with you on the Star Trek thing. There have been some excellent actors in Star Trek, but I get the point you were aiming for about sci-fi acting.

I loved the part where Joan found the page in his book with the sketches of the other Doctors. And the drawing of Rose! I freaked for a good 5 min or so about it, lol.

I was a little like you, there were bits I loved, but on the whole I wasn`t as thrilled I was expecting to be.

My favourite bit was the diary of impossible things, and all the ink drawing inside. The one of the Dalek was quite cool, and then the one with all the old Doctor`s was just squeeful!

I think my expectations were a tad high, and that's why I was disappointed. It was really a pretty good episode.

The diary was so awesome. I loved it a lot.
